Abstract

Abstract

Background : The prevalence of the risk of falling in the elderly increases with age, namely the elderly with age over 65 years, the risk of falling reaches 30% and at the age above 80 years it increases to 50% every year. Falls are a common occurrence in the elderly and the risk of falling increases with age. The elderly will experience physical decline in the musculoskeletal system which causes a decrease in balance, making them prone to falls. One of the interventions that supports is forward stepping, which is a form of balance exercise for the elderly. Objective: To determined the effect of Forward Stepping balance exercises on the risk of falling in the elderly in Plumbungan Village. Methods : This type of research was quantitative, this research method uses Pre-Experiment Design with One Group Pre-Test-Post Test Design. Sampling of 15 respondents. The research instrument used the TUGT (Timed up and go test). Data analysis with Wilcoxon test. Results: The results showed a significant value in the forward stepping balance exercise to reduce the risk of falling with p value 0.001 <0.05. Conclusion : There was a significant effect of forward stepping balance exercises on reducing the risk of falling in landia in Plumbungan Village.
