ABSTRACT
Tropical Almond plant (Terminalia catappa L.) is commonly found in the Pacific region, especially in Indonesia. Terminalia catappa L. has many benefits, mainly as a traditional medicinal plant. Bacillus amyloliquefaciens is a soil bacterium of the genus Bacillus. The bacteria are devoted to produce antibiotics. The aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness of tropical almond leaf extract againts B. amyloliquefaciens. The Kirby-Bauer method is used to determinate the effectiveness of the clear zone, formed by antibacterial compounds that diffuse in bacterial growth media. The results showed, more concentration of the extract which are given, greater the clear zone that forms. Tropical almond antibacterial effectiveness is not better than the antibiotics tested.

ABSTRAK
Tanaman Ketapang (Terminalia catappa L.) merupakan tanaman yang banyak ditemukan di daerah Pasifik terutama di Indonesia, selain itu memiliki banyak manfaat terutama fungsinya sebagai tanaman obat tradisional. Bakteri Bacillus amyloliquefaciens merupakan salah satu bakteri tanah dari genus Bacillus. Bakteri tersebut dikhususkan untuk menghasilkan antibiotik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan efektivitas ekstrak daun ketapang terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri B. amyloliquefaciens. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode Kirby-Bauer, dimana penentuan efektivitas dilakukan berdasarkan zona bening yang terbentuk akibat pemberian senyawa antibakteri yang berdifusi pada media tumbuh bakteri. Hasil menunjukan bahwa semakin besar pemberian konsentrasi ekstrak (90%) maka zona bening yang terbentuk semakin besar. Nilai efektivitas antibakteri ketapang tidak lebih baik dari pada antibiotik yang diujikan.
