The crownshaft palm plant (Areca vestiaria) had been used by the people of North Sulawesi for cure cancer, diabetes and as male contraceptives. The purpose of this study was to assess the changes of the ethanol extract of the crownshaft palm nuts (Areca vestiaria) against the macroscopic description of kidney organ in white rat wistarstrain (Rattus norvegicus). The study was conducted using 12 rats as animal models and divided into 3 treatment groups and one control group for comparison. Extraction is done by maceration using 96% of ethanol. Extract dose was given daily for the three treatment groups, as much as 7.2 mg, 14.4 mg, and 21,6 mg, respectively. The treatment was conducted for 40 days. The results obtained showed, that in all treatment groups there is no change in coloration, surface and consistency (normal). Statistical test was done by using one-way ANOVA, and showed there are no significant differences in the results of the weighing of the rat body weight and rat kidney organ weights (p> 0.05). As conclusion, the three treatments applied in male rats wistar strain (Rattus norvegicus) gave no effect to the macroscopic description of the kidney organ.

Tumbuhan Pinang yaki (Areca vestiaria) digunakan oleh masyarakat sulawesi utara sebagai bahan obat kanker, diabetes, diare dan kontrasepsi pria. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui perubahan ekstrak etanol buah Pinang yaki (Areca vestiaria) terhadap gambaran makroskopis organ ginjal pada tikus putih galur wistar (Rattus norvegicus). Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan hewan percobaan tikus putih jantan galur wistar (Rattus norvegicus) berjumLah 12 ekor yang dibagi 3 kelompok perlakuan dan 1 kelompok kontrol sebagai pembanding. Ekstraksi dilakukan dengan cara maserasi menggunakan etanol 96%. Dosis ekstrak yang diberikan perhari untuk tiga kelompok perlakuan yaitu 7,2 mg/mL, 14,4 mg/mL, dan 21,6 mg/mL. Perlakuan dilakukan selama 40 hari. Hasil penelitan menunjukan bahwa tidak adanya perubahan terhadap warna, permukaan dan konsistensi (normal). Uji One way ANOVA menunjukkan tidak ada perbedaan bermakna pada hasil penimbangan berat badan tikus dan berat organ ginjal tikus (p > 0.05). Dapat disimpulkan bahwa pada ketiga perlakuan yang diberikan pada tikus putih jantan galur wisar (Rattus norvegicus) tidak memberi pengaruh terhadap gambaran makroskopis organ ginjal.
