         Red gedi leaf (Abelmoschus manihot L.) is a tropical plant that has traditionally been used as an ulcer and wound medicine in Talaud district. The use of red gedy leaves (Abelmoschus manihot L.) as an antiseptic is based only on empirical experience. This study aims to test the activity of red ged leaf extract (Abelmoschus manihot L.) in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, and Escherichia coli with several different solvents based on polarity. The test extract was obtained by maceration using the solvents of ethanol, ethyl acetate and hexane. The antibacterial activity test was performed using agar diffusion method and analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the difference of solvent polarity of ethanol, ethyl acetate and hexane gave different inhibitory activity against the growth of test bacteria wherein the inhibition zone of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria for ethanol extract was 26.5 mm, ethyl acetate 24.16 mm and hexane 15.33 mm while in Escherichia coli bacteria, ethanol extract 25.33 mm, ethyl acetate 18.66 mm and hexan 13,16mm

Daun gedi merah (Abelmoschus manihot L.) merupakan tumbuhan tropis yang secara tradisional telah digunakan sebagai obat bisul dan luka di kabupaten Talaud. Penggunaan daun gedi merah (Abelmoschus manihot L.) sebagai antiseptik hanya berdasarkan pengalaman empiris. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji aktivitas ekstrak daun gedi merah (Abelmoschus manihot L.) dalam menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus, dan Escherichia coli dengan beberapa pelarut berbeda berdasarkan kepolarannya. Ekstrak uji diperoleh dengan cara maserasi menggunakan pelarut etanol, etil asetat dan hexane. Uji aktivitas antibakteri dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode difusi agar dan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukan perbedaan kepolaran tiga pelarut yaitu etanol, etil asetat dan hexan memberikan aktivitas penghambatan yang berbeda terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri uji dimana zone penghambatan pada baktri Staphylococcus aureus untuk ekstrak etanol sebesar 26,50 mm, etil asetat 24,16mm dan hexan 15,33mm sedangkan pada bakteri Escherichia coli,  ekstrak etanol 25,33 mm, etil asetat 18.66mm dan hexan 13,16mm
