ABSTRACT
Â
Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a condition caused by the constriction and obstruction of blood vessels that drain blood to the heart muscle, so that the heart muscle will lack of blood and do not get oxygen for it’s function. The presence of CHD related with risk factors and comorbidities cause the complexity of the therapy given. Drugs selection will totally determine the quality of drugs use in therapy selection. This study aims to determine the characteristics of patients and evaluate the appropriateness of drug use in inpatient CHD patients in RSUP Prof. Dr. R.D.Kandou Manado period of July to September 2016. This study was a descriptive study with retrospectively data collection obtained 96 medical record data of inpatient CHD patients that meet the inclusion criteria. The result of the study based on the characteristics of CHD patients showed that the number of male patients was higher than female patients about 69 patients (71,88%) and the highest number of patients in the age group of 56 – 65 years was 40 patients (41,67%). Circulatory system disease was the most comorbidities were found in 68 patients (31,93%) and ≥ 5 types of drugs prescribed in 93 patients (96,88%). The appropriateness percentage of drug use consisted of indication appropriate 54,17%, drug appropriate 86,46%, patient appropriate 84,37%, and dose appropriate 96,88%.
