ABSTRACT
Sponges are marine organisms which have considerable potential ini producing active compounds. Theonella swinhoei it self is often found in tropical regions where the Bay of Manado is in the area. The aim of this study was determine the antimicrobial activity of Theonella swinhoei extract obtained from Manado bay against Staphylococcus aureus, Eschericia coli, and Candida albicans. The sampels were extracted by maceration and fractionation using ethanol, methanol, choloroform and n-hexane solvents. Antimicrobial activity was carried out using agar diffusion method (Kiby and Bauer). The results showed that crude ethanol extract, methanol fraction, chloroform fraction, and n-hexane fraction were effective in inhibiting the microbes of Staphylococcus aureus, Eschericia coli, and Candida albicans. Crude extract of ethanol, Chloroform fraction and methanol fraction are categorized moderate against all microbe, but for n-hexane fraction are categorized strong against Candida albicans microbe based on David and Stout theory.

ABSTRAK
Spons merupakan organisme laut yang memiliki potensi cukup besar dalam menghasilkan senyawa aktif. Theonella swinhoei sendiri sering ditemukan di daerah tropis di mana Teluk Manado berada dalam kawasan tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui adanya aktivitas antimikroba dari ekstrak Theonella swinhoei yang diperoleh dari teluk manado terhadap miroba uji Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, dan Candida albicans. Sampel diekstraksi secara maserasi dan di fraksinasi menggunakan pelarut etanol, metanol, kloroform, dan n-heksan. Aktivitas antimikroba dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode difusi agar (Kiby dan Bauer). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak kasar etanol, fraksi metanol,fraksi kloroform, dan fraksi n-heksan efektif menghambat mikroba uji Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, dan Candida albicans. Untuk eksrak kasar etanol, fraksi kloroform dan fraksi metanol di kategorikan sedang terhadap semua mikroba, tetapi untuk fraksi n-heksan dikategorikan kuat terhadap mikroba Candida albicans berdasarkan teori Davis and Stout.
