ABSTRACT
Caulerpa racemosa is one of the various species of seaweed that grows naturally in Indonesian waters. Caulerpa racemosa is found growing on coral subsrates or on sand and coral frangments. Caulerpa racemosa is edible or can be consumed by humans. Caulerpa racemosa produces primary and secondary metabolites, one type of secondary metabolite are antioxidants. Antioxidants are substances that inhibit oxidation reactions due to free radicals, which can cause damage to unsaturated fatty acids, cell wall membranes, blood vessels, DNA bases, and lipid tissue, causing disease. This study aims to analyze the antioxidant activity of Caulerpa racemosa. Seaweed samples Caulerpa Racemosa were collacted from the Mantehage Islands, North Sulawesi. This research is a laboratory experimental study. The samples were extracted by the maceration method using 95% EtOH. The ethanol extract of Seaweed Caulerpa Racemosa was testing against antioxidant activity using the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazi) method and measured by a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results shown that the ethanol extract of Seaweed Caulerpa racemosa performed the antioxidant activity at each concentration and the highest was at a concentration of 0.7 mg / L with an inhibition value of 62.63%.
