ABSTRACT
Kalamansi orange (Citrus microcarpa Bunge.) was used as a food ingredient by the community but its efficacy as an antibacterial is unknown. Based on the literature, the main content of citrus fruit skin is essential oil. Essential oils can inhibit or kill bacterial growth. The aim of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of essential oils of citrus peel against the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Antibacterial activity testing used the diffusion agar method by means of wells, with extract concentrations of 5%, 25%, 50%, and 100%. The results showed that essential oils of citrus fruit peel had a diameter of up to 11.16 mm against Staphylococcus aureus and 13.33 against Escherichia coli.

ABSTRAK
Jeruk kalamansi (Citrus microcarpa Bunge.) digunakan sebagai bahan makanan oleh masyarakat tetapi belum diketahui khasiatnya sebagai antibakteri. Berdasarkan literatur, kandungan utama kulit buah jeruk kalamansi ialah minyak atsiri. Kandungan minyak atsiri dapat menghambat atau membunuh pertumbuhan bakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri minyak atsiri kulit buah jeruk kalamansi terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli. Pengujian aktivitas antibakteri digunakan metode difusi agar dengan cara sumuran, dengan konsentrasi ekstrak 5%, 25%, 50%, dan 100%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa minyak atsiri kulit buah jeruk kalamansi memiliki diameter hingga rata-rata 11,16 mm pada bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan 13,33 pada Escherichia coli.
