Abstract

Background: Adolescents undergo a transition from childhood to adulthood, which involves physical, hormonal, psychological, and social changes. This transition can contribute to an increased excess weight among adolescents, which may negatively impact their quality of life. These effects can manifest in various areas, including physical health, psychological, social relationships, and environmental health aspects.

Aim: To determine the quality of life of the excess-weight high school adolescents in Minahasa Regency after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: This study employed a quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach, using cluster random sampling at the studied schools.

Results: This study involved 346 adolescents, 68 of whom were overweight or obese. The quality of life was 63.2±10.8 (the physical health); meanwhile, the quality of life was 59.6±12.3 in the psychological, 53.5±13.6 in the social relationship, and 61.6±12.7 in the environmental domain.

Conclusion: The majority of overweight and obese adolescents in Minahasa Regency post the COVID-19 pandemic had a sufficient quality of life in all domains, except in social relationships.
