Abstract

This study aims to analyze the price transmission elasticity of cloves in Tincep Village, Sonder Sub-district, to understand the price inequality between farmers and traders. Despite a general increase in clove prices, intermediary traders receive a higher average price than farmers, indicating inequity and inefficiency in the marketing system. The study used a survey method with primary data from interviews with 30 farmers and 2 intermediary traders, as well as secondary data from BPS and related literature. The sample of farmers was taken by simple random sampling, while the collecting traders used snowball sampling. The data used is cross section data of clove prices from May 2024 to March 2025. The results of the analysis show that the price at the trader level has a significant effect on the price at the farm level. The price transmission elasticity (ET) value of 0.96 indicates that price changes at the farm level are not as fast as at the trader level. An ET value of less than 1 indicates inelasticity and an unbalanced market structure, where two traders dominate and have higher bargaining power. Although the percentage difference in price changes between traders and farmers is only 0.04, improvements to the marketing system are still needed to make price distribution fairer and more efficient for all actors in the clove supply chain.
