Research aimed to study the effect of a mixture of cocopeat, soil, and NPK fertilizer on soil chemical properties, water use, and the growth of basil (Ocimum basilicum L.). The research was conducted for three months in Kalasey Satu Village, Mandolang District, North Sulawesi, with soil analysis conducted at the Soil and Environmental Science Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Sam Ratulangi University. Method used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) Method with four planting media treatments, namely soil alone (TS), soil + NPK fertilizer (TP), soil + cocopeat (CS), and soil + cocopeat + NPK fertilizer (CP). Parameters observed consisted of organic C, total nitrogen, available phosphorus, available potassium, water requirements, and plant growth including plant height, number of leaves, and fresh weight of plants. Results showed that the addition of cocopeat increased organic C and K content, but inhibited initial growth and the application of NPK fertilizer supported optimal growth.
Keywords: Cocopeat, Basil, water use, NPK fertilizer, soil chemical properties.
