Abstract: Smoking can cause reduced lung function such as decreased forced vital capacity (FVC), heart diseases, and cancer. An electronic cigarette or vape is an electrically powerful device that heats an e-liquid aerosol containing propylene, glycerin, glycol, nicotine, and various additives to produce aerosols that can be breathed. Electronic cigarettes are popular because they are considered as safer and healthier device than conventional cigarettes since they do not contain tobacco that is hazardous to health. This study aimed to find out the comparison of forced vital capacity of electronic smokers with tobacco smokers among students of Universitas Sam Ratulangi. This was an observational and analytical study with a cross-sectional study design. Samples consisted of 51 students obtained by using the purposive sampling method and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results showed that highest percentages were found in respondents aged 20 years (39.2%), tobacco smokers (58.8%), and low FVC (76.5%). The independent sample t-test used to compare the FVC of electronic smokers with tobacco smokers obtained a p-value of 0.719 indicating there was no significant difference between the two groups. In conclusion, there is no significant comparison between the forced vital capacity values of electronic smokers and tobacco smokers among students of Universitas Sam Ratulangi.
