Abstract: Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) is a hearing impairment caused by exposure to noise. Excessive use of headphones or earphones beyond hearing thresholds can lead to NIHL. This study aimed to determine the frequency, duration of exposure, and volume level of headphone or earphone usage among medical students of Universitas Sam Ratulangi, Manado. This was a descriptive study with a cross-sectional design. Primary data were obtained using questionnaires through google form. The results showed that from 364 respondents, the majority were female (75%), used earphones only (77%), and preferred wireless devices (61%). Highest percentage were found in being exposed for 5–10 years (31%), using devices 1–2 days per week (44%), using devices for 1–2 hours per day (44%), preferred volume level below 60% (57%), while the others (43%) used ≥60%. In conclusion, a small proportion of 3rd semester students of the medical faculty of Universitas Sam Ratulangi are at risk of hearing loss due to using devices for more than five years with a volume level ≥60%, and a total weekly frequency exceeding seven hours, or fall into the unsafe category due to using devices more than four hours per day with a total weekly frequency exceeding 28 hours even though the volume level is <60%.
