Abstract: Adolescent obesity is an emerging health problem worldwide. According to data from the World Obesity Federation, the increasing trend of adolescent obesity has yet to be halted. Visceral fat contributes to the incidence of overweight. The accumulation of excess visceral fat can cause adipose tissue inflammation and adipokine dysregulation, which can lead to several medical problems such as dyslipidemia, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and increased hospital mortality. This study aimed to determine the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and visceral fat thickness in adolescents. This was an observational and analytical with a cross-sectional design. The sample in this study consisted of 87 students. The instrument used to measure visceral fat thickness is ultrasonography. The results showed that 39 students (44.8%) had good nutritional IMT criteria and the average visceral fat thickness was 6.52 mm. The Pearson correlation test showed a moderate positive relationship between BMI and visceral fat thickness (r= 0.512; p<0.001). In conclusion, there is a relationship between body mass index and visceral fat thickness in adolescents.
