Abstract: The high usage of social media in the digital era has become a concern, particularly due to its various negative impacts on behavior, mental conditions, and attention span. University students aged 18-25 years represent one of the largest groups of social media users. Several studies have shown a significant relationship between social media addiction and decreased attention span. This study aimed to analyze the correlation between social media addiction and attention span among medical students in North Sulawesi. This was a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design involving 180 fifth-semester medical students at Universitas Sam Ratulangi. Data were analyzed using the Spearman's rank correlation test. The instruments used in this study were the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS) to measure social media addiction levels and the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS) to measure attention span. The Spearman's rank correlation test showed a p-value of <0.001 with a correlation coefficient of -0.346. The majority of students were found to have moderate levels of social media addiction (69.4%) and moderate attention span (53.9%). In conclusion, there is a significant negative correlation between social media addiction and the attention span of students in North Sulawesi. It is recommended that students use social media more wisely and limit their daily usage duration.
