Profil Edukasi Keluarga Pasien yang Dirawat di ICU RSUP Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou

Abstract: Severity of illness often results in many ICU patients losing their ability to communicate and make decisions regarding their care. Family education plays a vital role in decision-making when patients cannot do so themselves in the ICU. This study aimed to determine the profile of family education for patients admitted to the ICU at RSUP Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou. This study utilized a retrospective observational design with a quantitative approach. The sample consisted of 169 patients from the ICU of RSUP Prof. Dr. R.D. Kandou from January to June 2024. The research variables were patient characteristics, educators, educational materials, educational methods, and consent responses. Data were gathered through purposive sampling from medical records and analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the majority of family members receiving education were 41-50 years (30.76%), female (57.40%), as the patient’s child (51.48%), and not coming from the same city as the hospital (69.23%). Related to education, the highest percentages were found in hand hygiene education (100%), nurses as educators (38.96%), using interview/counseling educational method (53.85%). The percentage of consent for medical actions reached 73.44%. In conclusion, the family members of patients treated in the ICU of RSUP Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou Manado are predominantly aged 41-50 years, mostly female, coming from outside Manado, and relationships as patients’children. Related to education, the majority were nurses as educators, hand hygiene education, and interview/counseling methods. Consents for medical actions is more frequent compared to refusals.

Abstrak: Keparahan penyakit menyebabkan sebagian besar pasien ICU kehilangan kemampuan untuk berkomunikasi dan mengambil keputusan terkait perawatannya. Edukasi keluarga pasien berperan penting dalam pengambilan keputusan saat pasien tidak mampu melakukannya sendiri terkait perawatan di ICU. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui profil edukasi keluarga pasien yang dirawat di ICU RSUP Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou. Metode penelitian ialah observasional retrospektif dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Sampel ialah 169 pasien di ICU RSUP Prof. Dr. R.D. Kandou periode Januari-Juni 2024. Variabel penelitian meliputi karakteristik pasien, edukator, materi edukasi, metode edukasi, dan respon persetujuan. Data dikumpulkan secara purposive sampling dari rekam medis dan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian mendapatkan keluarga pasien yang menerima edukasi paling banyak berasal dari kelompok usia 41-50 tahun (30,76%), perempuan (57,40%), sebagai anak pasien (51,48%), dan tidak berasal dari kota yang sama dengan rumah sakit (69,23%). Terkait edukasi, persentase tertinggi didapatkan pada edukasi kebersihan tangan (100%), edukator perawat (38,96%), serta metode wawancara/konseling (53,85%). Persentase persetujuan tindakan medis mencapai 73,44%. Simpulan penelitian ini ialah keluarga pasien yang dirawat di ICU RSUP Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou Manado sebagian besar berusia 41-50 tahun, didominasi perempuan, mayoritas berasal dari luar Manado, dan sebagai anak pasien. Terkait edukasi, mayoritas pemberi edukasi oleh perawat, materi kebersihan tangan, dan metode wawancara/konseling. Persetujuan terhadap tindakan medis lebih tinggi dibandingkan penolakan.
