Abstract

ABSTRACT

This paper attempts to identify the extent to which the urban sprawl phenomenon in the peri-urban area of Manado City, Indonesia, is a result of linear sprawl during the period 2015-2025. The road corridors examined in this study include 10 primary arterial and collector road segments in 6 peri-urban sub-districts of Manado City. The intensity of linear sprawl is measured using the Linear Sprawl Intensity Ratio (LSIR) metric, which is defined as the ratio of building density or building footprint growth in the buffer area of the road corridor to the same parameters within the sub-district for the same time period. LSIR>1 is identical to the occurrence of linear sprawl. The buffer zone is set at 100 m wide on both sides of the road. The analysis results show that in the ratio of density parameters and building footprint growth, of the 10 observed corridors, 6 corridors have LSIR>1, but there are slight differences in the distribution between parameters.
