ABSTRACT

Dental caries still one of the most common dental problem in Indonesia. According to Basic Health Research (RISKESDAS) report in 2013, dental caries reached the number of 4.6% in severity. Pacar Air Flower (Impatiens Balsamica L) is plant with a high potential to treat this condition. The Pacar Air Flower contains a chemical compounds called Flavanoid and Quercetin that have an active compound that can prevent the microbe activity. The objective to know further about the effectiveness of anti bacterial from the extract of Pacar Air Flower (Impatiens Balsamina L) against the growth of Streptococcus mutans by in vitro. This study was based on Experimental Laboratory by in vitro that uses true experimental design with research design of post test only control group design. The extract of Pacar Air Flower can be effective in slowing down the growth of the Streptococcus mutans bactery. Prevention zone of Pacar Air Flower against Streptococcus mutans bactery is 10.69mm.

ABSTRAK

Karies gigi masih merupakan masalah kesehatan gigi dan mulut di Indonesia. Hal ini sejalan dengan Laporan Hasil Riset Kesehatan Dasar (RISKESDAS) Nasional tahun 2013, tingkat keparahan karies gigi di Indonesia mencapai 4,6%. Pacar air (Impatiens Balsamica L.) merupakan tanaman yang berpotensi tinggi dalam pengobatan penyakit ini. Bunga pacar air mengandung senyawa kimia Flavonoid dan Quercetin yang memiliki senyawa aktif yang menghambat aktifitas mikroba. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui efektivitas antibakteri ekstrak bunga pacar air (Impatiens Balsamina L) terhadap pertumbuhan Streptococcus mutans secara in vitro. Metode Penelitian : Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental laboratorium secara in vitro menggunakan rancangan eksperimen murni (true experimental desain) dengan rancangan penelitian post test only control group design. Ekstrak bunga pacar air efektif dalam menghambat bakteri Streptococcus mutans. Zona hambat ekstrak bunga pacar air terhadap bakteri Streptococcus mutans sebesar 10,69 mm.
