ABSTRACT

 

Bacteria are one of the causes of infection. The bacteria were microorganisms, which cannot be observe with the naked eye, but can only be seen with the aid of microorganisms itself. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of cashew bark (Annacardium occidentale L.) on the inhibition of bacterial growth from the saliva of patients with mouth ulcers. The extraction was done by maceration method using 96 % of ethanol. Testing for antibacterial activity was performing using agar diffusion method. The results showed that the ethanol extract of cashew stem bark have antibacterial activity against the bacteria taken from the three of sprue patients. Extracts with the concentrations of 0.2 : 1; 0.4 : 1; 0.6 : 1; 0.8 : 1; perform as an effective concentration in inhibiting the growth of bacteria from the saliva of three patients of sprue.

ABSTRAK

 

Salah satu penyebab infeksi ialah bakteri. Bakteri merupakan mikroorganisme yang tidak dapat dilihat dengan mata telanjang, tetapi hanya dapat dilihat dengan bantuan mikroorganisme.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak etanol kulit batang jambu mete (Annacardium occidentale L.) terhadap penghambatan pertumbuhan bakteri dari air liur penderita sariawan. Ekstraksi dilakukan dengan cara maserasi menggunakan pelarut etanol 96%. Pengujian aktivitas antibakteri menggunakan metode difusi agar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol kulit batang jambu mete memiliki aktivitas sebagai antibakteri terhadap bakteri yang diambil 3 orang penderita sariawan. Konsentrasi 0,2:1; 0,4:1; 0,6:1; 0,8:1; merupakan konsentrasi efektif dalam menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri dari air liur ketiga penderita sariawan.
