Indonesia’s marine waters have a very high diversity of marine biota which can be utilized to support human life. Sea cucumber is one of the many organisms which can be used as a source of marine bioactive compounds. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of the extracts and the fractions of sea cucumber Holothuria edulis from manado bay from bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Samples were extracted by maceration using ethanol and Fractionation using methanol, n-hexane, and chloroform, respectively. Antibacterial activity was performed using agar diffusion method (disk diffusion kirby and Bauer). The results showed that sea cucumber Holothuria edulis obtained from bay manado has activity of inhibition zone against bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.

Perairan laut Indonesia memiliki keanekaragaman biota laut sangat tinggi yang dapat dimanfaatkan untuk kehidupan. Teripang merupakan salah satu biota yang dapat dijadikan sebagai sumber senyawa bioaktif dari laut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui adanya aktivitas antibakteri dari ekstrak dan fraksi teripang Holothuria edulis yang diperoleh dari teluk Manado terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli. Sampel diekstraksi secara maserasi dan fraksinasi menggunakan pelarut etanol, metanol, n-heksan, dan kloroform. Aktivitas antibakteri dilakukan menggunakan metode difusi agar (disc diffusion Kirby and Bauer). Hasil penelitian menunjukan teripang Holothuria edulis yang diperoleh dari Teluk Manado, memiliki aktivitas zona hambat terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan bakteri Escherichia coli.
