ABSTRACT
One of the causes of acne is the presence of Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis on skin. The aim of this research was to develop gel product made from the combination of extracts that are effective as anti-acne against P. Acnes and S. epidermidis. This research was based on experiment method. Soursop leaf and temulawak rhizome were extracted by maceration in ethanol 96%. The viscous extract was then tested to P.Acnes and S.epidermidis to gain Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC). The MIC value of soursop leaf and temulawak rhizome extract for P. Acnes and S.epidermidis were 3% b/v and 1% b/v respectively. The antibacterial potential of formulated gel was gained by evaluating the average diameter of the radical zone with three repetitions of gel contained ethanol extract of temulawak rhizome 1% b/v against bacteria P. acnes and S. epidermis (1,33 mm and 1,67 mm), ethanol extract of soursop leaf 3% b/v (1,33 mm and 1,67 mm), combination of temulawak rhizome and soursop leaf 3:1% b/v (2 mm and 2,67 mm), 1,5:1% b/v (1,67 mm and 1,63 mm), and 4,5:1% b/v (3,67 mm and 3,63 mm). The result showed that in gels contained the combination of of temulawak rhizome and soursop leaf with the similar concentration of single extract did not have the better radical zone result compared to the single extracts, and were considered as antagonist.
