ABSTRACT
Ascidian is one of the marine biota that has not received serious attention, but has considerable potentially in Indonesian waters. Potential ascidians serve a exploratory material for the search for new bioactive compounds as drug candidates for the pharmaceutical world. This study aims to determine the antimicrobial activity of extract and ascidian fraction of Herdmania momus obtained from Manado bay againts Staphylococcus aureus microbes, Escherichia coli, and Candida albicans. Samples were extracted by maceration and fractionation using ethanol, methanol, chloroform, and n-hexane. Antimicrobial activity was performed by agar diffusion method (Kirby and Bauer). The results showed that rough extract of ethanol, methanol fraction, chloroform fraction, and n-hexane fraction effectively inhibited microbial Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Candida albicans, extracts and fractions were categorized medium except for n-hexane fraction againts Candida albicans microorganisms were very strong categorized based on the theory of Davis and Stout.

ABSTRAK
Ascidian merupakan salah satu biota laut yang belum mendapat perhatian yang serius, namun mempunyai potensi yang cukup besar di perairan Indonesia. Ascidian potensial dijadikan sebagai bahan eksplorasi pencarian senyawa bioaktif baru sebagai calon obat untuk dunia farmasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan adanya aktivitas antimikroba dari estrak dan fraksi ascidian Herdmania momus yang diperoleh dari teluk Manado terhadap mikroba Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, dan Candida albicans. Sampel diekstraksi secara maserasi dan fraksinasi menggunakan etanol, metanol, kloroform, dan n-heksana. Aktivitas antimikroba dilakukan dengan metode difusi agar (Kirby dan Bauer). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak kasar etanol, fraksi metanol, fraksi kloroform, dan fraksi n-heksana efektif menghambat mikroba Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, dan Candida albicans, ekstrak dan fraksi dikategorikan sedang kecuali untuk fraksi n-heksana terhadap mikroba Candida albicans dikategorikan sangat kuat berdasarkan teori Davis dan Stout.
