ABSTRACT
Sponges are one of the components that compose coral reef which have a potential bioactive substance that has not been utilized. This test attempts to to know the antibacterial compound activity of sponges Theonella swinhoei extracts against the bacterial growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Maceration method is used for this extraction using 95% ethanol as solvent. The antibacterial activity is tested using the disk diffusion agar method kirby-bauer. The results against Staphylococcus aureus is 12,99 mm, 12,98 mm and 12,28 mm. Escherichia coli is 11,83 mm, 11,79 mm and 11,53 mm. The results showed that the extract is effective in inhibiting the bacterias and categorized strong against both bacterias.
