Efektivitas Perendaman Elemen Gigi Tiruan akibat Diskolorasi Teh Hitam dalam Larutan Arang Aktif Tempurung Kelapa

Abstract: Discoloration of denture elements can interfere with aesthetics and reduce self-confidence in denture users. Denture whitening materials in the market are generally derived from chemicals. Therefore, the usage of natural materials as teeth whiteners inter alia coconut shell activated charcoal are safer due to the minimal side effects. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of immersion of discolored denture elements due to black tea in coconut shell activated charcoal solution. This was an experimental and laboratory study with a pretest-posttest group design. Samples were 24 maxillary central incisor dentures with different soaking times, namely 2 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours, and 8 hours. Tooth color changes were measured with the visual method using the shade guide Vitapan. The One-way ANOVA test showed a p-value of <0.05 indicating that there was a difference in value between the treatment groups before and after soaking. There was a change in tooth color in each treatment group. The largest color change occurred in group 4, followed by group 3, group 2, and the smallest color change was in group 1. In conclusion, coconut shell activated charcoal solution is effective against discolored denture due to black tea. The largest color change occurred in immersion for 8 hours.

Abstrak: Perubahan warna pada elemen gigi tiruan dapat mengganggu estetika dan menurunkan rasa percaya diri pada pengguna gigi tiruan. Bahan pemutih gigi tiruan yang beredar di pasaran umumnya berasal dari bahan kimia. Penggunaan bahan alam lebih aman sebagai pemutih gigi untuk meminimalisir efek samping; salah satu alternatif ialah arang aktif tempurung kelapa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas perendaman elemen gigi tiruan akibat diskolorasi teh hitam dalam larutan arang aktif tempurung kelapa. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan yaitu eksperimantal laboratorik dengan metode pretest-posttest group design. Sampel penelitian ialah 24 sampel gigi tiruan insisivus sentralis rahang atas dengan perbedaan lama waktu perendaman, yaitu 2 jam, 4 jam, 6 jam, dan 8 jam. Perubahan warna gigi diukur dengan metode visual menggunakan shade guide Vitapan. Hasil uji One-way ANOVA mendapatkan nilai p<0,05 yang menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan nilai dari kelompok perlakuan sebelum dan sesudah perendaman. Terdapat perubahan warna gigi pada setiap kelompok perlakuan. Perubahan warna terbesar terjadi pada kelompok 4, diikuti kelompok 3, kelompok 2, dan perubahan warna terkecil pada kelompok 1. Simpulan penelitian ini ialah larutan arang aktif tempurung kelapa efektif terhadap perubahan warna gigi tiruan akibat diskolorasi teh hitam. Perubahan warna terbesar terjadi pada perendaman dengan lama waktu 8 jam.
