Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

IDEA : International Journal of Informatics, Data, and Emerging Applications recognizes that Generative Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI) technologies can be used to support various aspects of the scientific writing and publication process. However, the use of AI must be conducted responsibly, transparently, and in accordance with the principles of academic integrity, research ethics, and publication ethics.

Authors remain fully responsible for the content of their manuscripts, including the accuracy of the data, data interpretation, analysis, scientific arguments, citations, references, and research conclusions. The use of AI technology does not diminish or transfer the author’s responsibility for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and reliability of the submitted manuscript.

1. Authors’ Use of AI

Authors may use Generative AI tools to assist with grammar, spelling, language proficiency, writing style, readability, and manuscript editing.
Authors may use AI as a supporting tool during the research and writing process, provided that its use does not replace the authors’ scientific judgment, critical thinking, or intellectual contribution.
Authors are responsible for carefully reviewing and verifying all information, statements, references, citations, and other content generated or assisted by AI before incorporating them into the manuscript.
Authors should ensure that the use of AI does not result in plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, inappropriate attribution, or any other form of academic misconduct.
Where required by the journal, authors should disclose the use of Generative AI in the manuscript, particularly when AI has substantially contributed to the generation or modification of manuscript content.

2. Authorship

Generative AI systems, chatbots, large language models, and other AI-based software cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of a manuscript.
AI systems cannot meet the requirements for authorship because they cannot assume responsibility and accountability for the published work or provide formal approval of the final manuscript.
All individuals listed as authors must meet the journal’s authorship requirements and must accept responsibility for their respective contributions to the research and publication.
Authors remain fully accountable for the content produced with the assistance of AI technologies.

3. AI-Generated Data, Images, and Other Content

Research data must not be generated, fabricated, manipulated, or altered using AI in a manner that compromises the validity, integrity, or reproducibility of the research.
AI-generated or AI-modified images, illustrations, graphs, figures, or other visual materials must be appropriately disclosed when they are included in a manuscript, where such disclosure is applicable.
The use of AI for image manipulation that could mislead readers, distort research findings, or alter the scientific meaning of an image is not permitted.
Authors must ensure that any AI-assisted content accurately represents the underlying research and does not misrepresent experimental results or scientific evidence.
Editors may request additional information, clarification, source materials, or supporting evidence concerning the use of AI in generating or modifying research data, images, figures, or other content.

4. Use of AI by Reviewers and Editors

Reviewers and editors must maintain the strict confidentiality of all manuscripts, research data, figures, supplementary materials, and other information received during the editorial and peer-review processes.
Reviewers and editors must not upload or submit confidential manuscript content, unpublished data, figures, tables, or other protected information to public or third-party Generative AI services that may retain, process, disclose, or use such information for system training or other purposes.
Reviewers and editors must not use AI tools to generate or substantially formulate peer-review reports or editorial decisions without appropriate human oversight and accountability.
Any use of AI by reviewers or editors must comply with the principles of confidentiality, integrity, fairness, transparency, and publication ethics.

5. Disclosure and Transparency

Authors are encouraged to disclose the use of Generative AI when AI tools have been used beyond basic spelling, grammar, or language correction, particularly when AI has contributed substantially to the generation, organization, analysis, or modification of manuscript content.

The disclosure should identify the AI tool used and describe the purpose and extent of its use. Authors remain responsible for verifying and validating all AI-assisted content before submission.

The use of AI must not be used to conceal the origin of scientific ideas, data, analyses, or intellectual contributions.

6. Compliance with Publication Ethics

This policy has been developed in accordance with established principles of publication ethics, including recommendations and best practices promoted by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and internationally recognized scholarly publishers.

Any violation of this policy may result in manuscript rejection, a request for clarification or revision, withdrawal of the manuscript from consideration, retraction of a published article, or other editorial actions, depending on the nature and severity of the violation and in accordance with the journal’s publication ethics policies.

7. Journal Position on Responsible AI Use

IDEA : International Journal of Informatics, Data, and Emerging Applications supports the responsible and transparent use of Generative AI technologies as tools to enhance the quality, clarity, and efficiency of scientific communication. However, AI technologies must remain supportive tools and must not replace human intellectual contribution, scientific judgment, accountability, or responsibility.

The journal is committed to upholding academic integrity, research integrity, transparency, accountability, originality, and ethical standards throughout the scholarly publishing process.
