About the Journal
Jurnal Bios Logos is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by the Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Sam Ratulangi University, Indonesia. Established in 2011, the journal provides an platform for original research and critical scientific synthesis across the biological sciences.
Jurnal Bios Logos advances integrative biological research spanning molecular, organismal, population, community, and ecosystem levels. Drawing on its established publication record, the journal has developed particular strengths in tropical biodiversity, ecology and conservation, plant and animal biology, molecular and microbial biology, biological resources, environmental biology, and biotechnology.
Located in North Sulawesi within the biologically distinctive Wallacea region, the journal has a particular scholarly interest in tropical and Wallacean biological systems, including biodiversity-rich terrestrial, freshwater, coastal, and island environments. Jurnal Bios Logos welcomes high-quality research from all regions when the study advances biological knowledge and demonstrates relevance beyond its immediate species, site, or dataset.
The journal encourages research that integrates contemporary biological approaches, including biodiversity assessment, long-term ecological monitoring, molecular identification and DNA barcoding, phylogenetic analysis, microbial and biochemical methods, experimental biology, bioinformatics, biotechnology, and quantitative ecological analysis. Studies involving biological resources, natural products, human or animal physiology, or biomedical models should provide a substantive biological contribution and be clearly grounded in biological mechanisms or processes.
Jurnal Bios Logos applies a double-blind peer-review process involving at least two independent reviewers. The journal is committed to editorial independence, publication ethics, research integrity, transparent authorship, responsible use of artificial intelligence, ethical treatment of human and animal research subjects, responsible biodiversity research, data transparency, and appropriate correction of the scholarly record.
The journal publishes three issues annually and welcomes contributions from researchers worldwide.

First Publication of Jurnal Bios Logos
Jurnal Bios Logos was first published in August 2011 with a print International Standard Serial Number (p-ISSN: 2088-9569). It was the second scholarly journal established by the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Sam Ratulangi University, Manado, Indonesia.

Obtaining the Electronic ISSN (e-ISSN)
Jurnal Bios Logos officially obtained its electronic International Standard Serial Number (e-ISSN: 2656-3282), marking an important milestone in the journal's development as an electronic scholarly publication.

Migration to Open Journal Systems (OJS) 3
Jurnal Bios Logos migrated from Open Journal Systems (OJS) 2 to OJS 3 (version 3.3.0.12) to enhance journal management efficiency, streamline editorial and peer-review workflows, and improve the quality of its publication processes.

Change in Article Layout Format
Starting with Volume 13, Issue 1 (2023), Jurnal Bios Logos adopted a single-column article layout, replacing the previous two-column format to improve readability and enhance the clarity and presentation of published articles.

Change in Publication Frequency
Due to the increasing number of manuscript submissions, Jurnal Bios Logos increased its publication frequency from two to three issues per year, effective from Volume 13, Issue 1 (2023).
Since then, the journal has been published every four months, with issues released in March, July, and November.
This change has also been officially recorded in the journal's e-ISSN registration information at the National Library of Indonesia (Perpustakaan Nasional Republik Indonesia).

Upgrade to Open Journal Systems (OJS) 3.4.0.10
In July 2026, Jurnal Bios Logos upgraded its journal management and publishing platform to Open Journal Systems (OJS) version 3.4.0.10. This upgrade was undertaken to improve system performance, security, and the efficiency of editorial management, manuscript submission, peer review, and online publication processes.
