Focus and Scope
Jurnal Bios Logos aims to advance fundamental and applied knowledge in the biological sciences by publishing rigorous, original, and high-quality research spanning molecular, organismal, population, community, and ecosystem levels of biological organization.
The journal particularly encourages integrative research addressing tropical biodiversity, biological resources, environmental change, species and ecosystem conservation, and the biological processes that shape organisms and their interactions with their environments. While Jurnal Bios Logos has a distinctive interest in tropical and Wallacean biological systems, submissions from all geographical regions are welcomed when they provide a clear contribution to biological science.
Biodiversity, Ecology, and Conservation
The journal welcomes research on terrestrial, freshwater, and coastal biodiversity; population and community ecology; behavioural ecology; habitat ecology; ecological monitoring; conservation biology; restoration ecology; ecosystem functions; species interactions; threatened and endemic species; and biological responses to environmental change. Studies based on local biodiversity inventories should demonstrate broader ecological, biogeographical, methodological, or conservation significance.
Plant and Animal Biology
Relevant topics include plant and animal physiology, anatomy, morphology, developmental biology, reproductive biology, behaviour, taxonomy, systematics, functional biology, and organismal responses to biotic and abiotic environments. Research involving agricultural or cultured organisms is considered when its primary contribution advances biological understanding rather than routine production or management practice.
Molecular, Microbial, and Integrative Biology
Jurnal Bios Logos publishes research in molecular biology, genetics, DNA barcoding, phylogenetics, evolutionary biology, bioinformatics, microbiology, microbial ecology, enzymology, and other integrative approaches connecting molecular or microbial processes with organisms, populations, or ecosystems.
Biological Resources and Biotechnology
The journal welcomes research on biological resources, natural bioactive compounds, endophytic and beneficial microorganisms, biological control, bioconversion, fermentation, bioprospecting, and biotechnology when the work provides clear biological novelty, mechanistic insight, methodological advancement, or scientifically validated biological application.
Environmental and Evolutionary Biology
Research may address biogeography, adaptation, evolutionary relationships, environmental microbiology, ecophysiology, biological indicators, bioremediation, organism-environment interactions, and biological responses to pollution, habitat alteration, climate variability, or other environmental pressures.
Integrative Biomedical Biology
Experimental or computational biomedical studies may be considered when their primary contribution concerns biological mechanisms, molecular interactions, physiology, cellular processes, microbiology, genetics, or biologically active compounds. General clinical studies, hospital-based management studies, public-health surveys, health-behaviour studies, and descriptive epidemiological research without a substantive biological contribution fall outside the journal's primary scope.
Geographic Orientation
Jurnal Bios Logos has particular scholarly interest in tropical and biodiversity-rich regions, including Wallacea and the wider Indo-Pacific. Research conducted in other regions is equally eligible when it advances the journal's biological aims or provides comparative, methodological, evolutionary, ecological, or theoretical insight relevant to the international biological sciences.
Article Types and Editorial Expectations
The journal considers Original Research Articles, Review Articles, Systematic or Scoping Reviews with clear biological relevance, Short Communications reporting substantively novel findings, and Methodological Papers.
Manuscripts should clearly identify the biological research problem, relevant international literature, methodological rigor, novelty, and contribution to existing knowledge. Purely descriptive local surveys, routine replication of established methods, studies whose novelty rests primarily on a new geographical location, and applications without broader biological significance may be declined during editorial screening.
Research involving humans, animals, wildlife, protected species, biological specimens, genetic resources, microorganisms, or traditional biological knowledge must comply with applicable ethical approvals, research permits, biosafety requirements, and data or specimen-reporting standards. Authors must also comply with the journal's policies on authorship and contributorship, conflicts of interest, data availability, publication integrity, responsible citation, and use of generative artificial intelligence.
